    SpeedrunCI Is Now on FAB

    SpeedrunCI Is Now on FAB

The SpeedrunCI plugin is now live on FAB. It is free to install, and it puts your build pipeline inside the Unreal Editor.

Here is the short version of why it exists.

Fast builds were not the whole problem

We build games at Ayelet Studio. For a long time, builds were the slowest part of the week. Packaging a build meant running all three platforms sequentially, which cost us 3x the time. Our one build machine was a bottleneck. And producers, QA, and designers had no visibility, so they scrambled for the latest build every morning.

So we built our own CI/CD platform.

That solved the speed and the visibility. It did not solve everything.

But one thing was still broken.

Even with a fast pipeline, starting a build still meant leaving Unreal. You tab out to a web dashboard, or someone opens a terminal and runs the right command with the right flags. So in practice, one person still owned builds. The artists and designers who actually needed a packaged build to test something could not just make one. They had to go find the build wizard. Again.

We had fixed the infrastructure. The workflow still had a person stuck in the middle of it.

    What the plugin does

The whole point of the plugin is that you never leave the Unreal Editor.

There is a button in the editor toolbar. Click it, and SpeedrunCI runs your build in the cloud, streams your logs, and delivers the finished artifact, all while you keep working. The live status shows up right there in the editor.

The SpeedrunCI panel showing build pipelines for Win64, on-prem, PS5, and Xbox Series, each with its last build status

Every platform pipeline and its last build status sit in one view. Anyone on the team can see what passed and what failed, without a CI dashboard tour.

Underneath, the service is built for how Unreal actually works, not retrofitted from a web app tool:

    • Game-aware caching for cooked assets, shaders, and derived data, so repeat builds stay fast.
    • A parallel build graph that runs across multiple runners instead of one long queue.
    • Every UE platform: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and console on Enterprise.
    • Artifact storage and distribution, so you are done shipping 100GB builds over Google Drive.

When a build fails, you do not scroll through 2,000 warnings to find the one error that matters. SpeedrunCI reads the logs and suggests fixes, with the file and line to look at.

    What changes for the team

A designer can trigger a build to test a level. A producer can see whether the nightly build passed without asking anyone. The build stops being a thing one person owns and becomes something the whole team can reach.

A finished Xbox Series X build artifact, 20.6 GB, ready to download from SpeedrunCI

When a build finishes, the artifact is right there to download. A 20 GB console build, no Google Drive link, no waiting on the one person who knows where the builds live.

    Try it

The plugin is free on FAB. The service has a free trial, so you can run one of your own builds through it without talking to anyone. Install it, connect your account, and run your first Unreal build in minutes:

    1. Install the plugin from FAB.
    2. Enable it in your project.
    3. Sign in with your SpeedrunCI account.
    4. Pick a project preset and trigger your first build.

If your studio still has one person everyone depends on whenever someone asks “Can you make me a build?”, that is the exact thing we built this to fix. Install it, run a build, and tell us what you think.
